Monkey's first foods: Green Beans

So yesterday we tried a new food. Green Beans. She has been a trooper with everything else we have tried but this was the first miss. She made a few faces but still gave it a shot, but it was so horrible to her that she ended up started to cough and choke. That really scared us. Chris tried to pull her out the high chair forgetting that she was strapped in but thankfully she cleared it on her own. Not a great feeling having your heart jump into your throat! We might try to give her a bite or two of it tonight and if it's the same we will go back to squash or peaches, then maybe try green beans in a few weeks again. It sucks that I will probably have to throw out the rest of the jar since it says to ditch anything left in it after three days. I hate wasting food. I really don't blame her for the faces since I tried a little bit of it and I have to say it tasted really gross! I like green beans but not in puree form. Yuck!

The first bite...
Not really sure what to think...

Not really liking it...

More 'I don't like it' faces...

Green beans make me sad :(.

Update: Just to update that when I tried to give her a bit tonight just to make sure that she didn't like it, she surprised me and ate it without making a face. What a strange child I have. But I am glad that now I won't have to waste the rest of the jar.

Monkey's first foods: Peaches

Chris fed her some peaches tonight when he got home from work. She seemed unsure what to think about them. She made a few sour faces but she still ate them. We will see how she does on them tommarrow night.

Here she is clearly not sure what to think..

the anticipation is almost unbearable...

she is still a trooper and tries her first spoonful...

and clearly makes a sour face. lol

Happy 6 month birthday Monkey!

Happy 6 month old birthday Monkey!

Wow already a half a year old! Where did the time go! I think in the last week you have grown bigger and it seems all of a sudden to both of us.

Weight: ~tbd friday the 23rd at 6 month baby well check (will update then)
Height: ~tbd friday the 23rd at 6 month baby well check (will update then)
Hair colour: Your hair is dark like Daddy's and getting thicker
Eye Colour: Your eyes are still dark and almost black. I think they are going to be a dark brown colour.
Diaper size: You are in size 2 or M in Bummis Cloth diaper covers, although we are now using one size fits all, all in one cloth diapers.

Clothing size: You wear mostly 6 month sized clothing since most 3-6 are getting a bit small. You can still fit comfortably in some 3-6 month clothing but more often then not we just opt to use 6 month plus.

Sleep: You still sleep alright at night. Now that I think you are out of your growth spurt you have been going to sleep and waking up at 2am and then not again until 7am. You do semi wake up a few times after being put to bed for the night but daddy just has to go back in there and give you your soother and you drift off to sleep again. This doesn't happen as often anymore though. Naps you only sleep for about 30-45 mins at a time. I have finally come to terms that you are just a short napper and I probably will have to give you more then two a day. You are still currently being nursed to sleep but that will change soon since I will begin to wean on monday.

Feeding: You are still feed on mommys milk, but are being given more formula supplementation after a few feedings a day and usually before bed at night (only this past week). Mommy is not producing enough milk anymore to satisfy you even with taking donperidone which helped a lot when mommy first started taking it. Anything else I have done is also not working. Mommy thinks she is ready to wean anyways since she can no longer take all the plugged ducts and all the problems we are still having. Mommy does not want to have to deal with biting when you get your top teeth in since she just can't handle that. So to keep mommy sane she has decided to wean. It will be a relief to not have to constantly worry that you are not getting enough milk. Hopefully mommy will be able to nurse any siblings you may have longer then 6 months, but mommy is proud to have been able to nurse you as long as she has!

You have also started eating rice cereal (mostly just a tablespoon or two around lunch time) and recently have started giving you a tablespoon or two of baby food at supper time. So far it has just been squash. You made a face the first time you tried it but gobbled it all up regardless. :)

Favorite toy: Crinkle bug is still your favorite toy, but you also enjoy playing with your plastic keys and your dollys (one with the nice soft skirt and the other one with the rattle in her head). You also enjoy playing with a rattle bear on the change table and you LOVE your jolly jumper! You have gotten really good and jumping the past few days and really get some good air now!

Nicknames: Mommy and Daddy still call you Monkey. That is your main nickname but Mommy has started calling you monkster the odd time now.

Funniest moments: When you were being sneaky and tricked Daddy into thinking you were almost asleep but then he noticed your foot slowly inching out towards the dresser top so you could feel around with your foot. :)

Favorite moments (mommy): Seeing you get so excited and giggly when you are in your jolly jumper!

Milestones:
- you have started eating solids (rice cereal and squash so far)
- you can roll over and now get your arm out from under you most of the time, although there are days where you never attempt it and some days where that is all you want to do. You are so cute because once you are on your belly you lift both your arms and legs up and start kicking, like you are trying to propel yourself forward like you are a fish in the water. Then you get frustrated when you don't get anywhere. lol.
- You also, when you want to look behind you or around when on the floor, push with your heels to bring your back into a bridge and roll up onto the top of your head and look around. I think this is mostly how you are able to turn around on the ground and be in different positions each time I look at you.
- you can manage to turn yourself and do what you can to get to a toy that is close to you but not quite in reach. Mommy never knows what position you will be in whenever she looks at you.
- you can look for a dropped object (mostly your toy keys when you drop them while jumping in your jolly jumper, you like shaking them around while jumping)
- you have both bottom teeth. We thought it was only one of them but as soon as one poked through the other one did as well.

Firsts:
- Tried and eating regularly, rice cereal, about 1-2 tablespoons a day.
- So far have tried only squash. Next up is peaches.

A funny thing she did...

Last night was brutal, I don't know why I am not more tired then I am. I only got about 4 -5  hours of sleep! She just kept waking up and would not go back to sleep. She did the funniest thing though and one that I would like to share. Chris tried his best to keep his laughter in but couldn't. It is just another thing to prove that she comes by her nickname naturally.

So it finally came down to Chris holding her with her back to his chest at one point. He
was walking and bouncing over by the dresser and the cd player when all of a sudden he burst out laughing. I said really softly 'what!?'. We don't like talking to much in there when trying to get her to sleep but I knew I couldn't wait to know why he laughing so much. He said that he thought that she was finally getting drowsy and calming down since she wasn't really moving all that much, but then he noticed that her foot was sloooowly inching out towards the dresser top so she could feel around with her foot. Omg it was hard for me not to laugh either, I was just picturing it in my mind! I couldn't see it happening since his back was to me. He had to move away from there so she wouldn't keep feeling around with her foot. She really is a monkey! LOL!

Babies new foods: Squash

So on sunday we started monkey on a new food. We decided to try some squash. She sort of made a face at first but then continued to eat it so I guess that she liked it? lol. She made a wierd face when Chris pretended to take a bit off her spoon instead of giving it to her. So now around lunch time we are giving her a tablespoon or two of rice cereal and then at supper time a tablespoon of squash. She gobbles both up it makes me feel again she isn't getting enough breast milk. I think I am done with nursing, or at least mostly. I probably will not drop the just before bed, in the middle of the night or the morning feedings unless when we get to that point she doesn't want to nurse. I made it to 6 months so I am happy with that. The only thing that scares me about stopping is that I nurse her to sleep. I wish that I wouldn't have gotten in that habit but for my own sanity it was just so much easier. At night time Chris can get her to sleep but it takes almost an hour (if for some reason she wakes up when we try to put her in her crib) but then she has the natural it's night time so you should be sleeping clock going against her trying to stay awake. I have no idea what I am going to do during the day to get her to nap! I'm usually stressed enough trying to get her to sleep long enough, or get enough short naps in that she isn't cranky mccrank pants all day long. I guess doing it sooner then later is better since I will have to go back to work in Jan and I won't be around to nurse on demand anymore. The question now is when will I actually start to wean. I might wait until after her next baby well check (which is next week) and be able to talk to the nurse and the doctor. I have no idea what to do anymore....

Her not sure what to think face...

Not impressed that daddy is pretending to eat her food face...lol

My newest favorite site...blurb.com

I have always wanted to be able to print off my journal so that I don't always have to be sitting at my computer to reread it. I never thought it would be possible to have it printed in such a nice way. I figured I would just have to sent it all to my printer and print it that way. That was until I found blurb.com!

It was so easy! I just downloaded their application so I could make my book offline (you can just do it online at their website as well) and away I went. There are so many layouts and choices and you even are able to build a page from scratch. I finally was able to place my order and I finally got my book yesterday. I was a bit nervous since I wasn't sure of the font size and I had ordered two copies. The highly recommended that you don't order multiple copies on a newly uploaded book in case it doesnt turn out the way you though. But hey, they were having a promotion and I needed two and I didn't want to have to pay shipping twice. So I took a chance. I originally started my journal online to share my pregnancy and beyond adventures with family and friends that we do not see all the time.

The only person that really never was able to sit down and read my journal on a daily basis was my mom. She is not a computer techy person nor does she even have one. So I ordered one for me and one for her. I can't wait to give it to her! I now am planning a few other ones as well. One for the planning of my wedding and our building a house adventures! I think I will be even more creative with the design and layout of these ones. The only thing I will do different is that I will make sure that I edit all my photos! Some of them turned out a bit dark but that was due to not correcting the colour etc.

I also love that it was printed in Calgary which meant that I didn't have to worry about any duty or tariff fees if it came from the states. I was a bit worried about that. Here is a picture of the cover and a random page inside!

love, love, LOVE IT! :) It will be nice to share it with friends, family that don't have a computer and also with Monkey when she is older.
